Yoga became a big part of my life when I fell pregnant with my first child, Megan. I found it gave me something I had always possessed but never fully used; the ability to listen to my self and to trust what I heard. We are designed to listen, but in order to do that fully we have to address emotions like anger, sadness, fear, desire and aversion. When we can sit with ourselves (‘asana’ means seat), we can hear ourselves. If we live ethically, and most cultures share a similar understanding of what that means, we can find that we are supplied with our own answers and are capable of great peace. This is the work of Yoga.

I realised quite early on that Yoga would become a life-long practice, and when my second child, Abbie, was born, I enrolled on the British Wheel of Yoga’s 3 year Teaching Diploma course (and qualified in March 2008). During these 3 years I studied Baby Yoga with Francoise Freedman and Children’s Yoga at the Life Centre in London with Jo Manuel. This has awarded me the privilege of working with the most enlightened souls of all; children. I have taught key stage 1,2 & 3 in schools in the West Yorkshire area and offer regular workshops in the school holidays. Throughout this time I have also been lucky enough to practice with some truly inspirational teachers: Sharon Gannon and David Life (Jivamukti Yoga), Rusty Wells, Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste, Rodney Yee, David Swenson, Tias Little, Donna Farhi, Julie Gudmestad, Sarah Powers, Sianna Sherman, Ana Forrest, Natasha Rizopoulos, and most recently with Darren Main in Rishikesh; fulfilling a life long dream to take my practice to India.

I pay homage to the wise and liberated teachers of the past and present, but above all I pay homage to those of you who roll out your mats and simply… begin.
